frequently asked

The   questions and   the   answers.

What brides usually ask before the first fitting, during the process, and those who visit us from afar. All in one place, with time to read.

booking

Booking your fittings

How do I make a Standard booking? Is there a fee?

The Standard booking is free and reserves an entire afternoon for the first fitting at the atelier. It can be made directly through our online calendar or by phone.

We recommend booking 12 to 14 months in advance to leave yourself room across the whole process. If your date is closer, talk to us and we will find a way.

What is the VIP booking and how much does it cost?

The VIP experience reserves the entire atelier for you and the guests you choose to bring. Dedicated attendance, sparkling, time without a clock, total privacy.

It costs €50, deducted from the price of the gown if you proceed with the purchase. Booked by phone or via the form, with at least 7 days notice.

How does booking work for the Outlet?

The Outlet (Av. da República 2276) receives brides by prior appointment. The booking fee is €10, deducted from the gown if you proceed with the purchase.

It guarantees calm attendance even in a space with more movement than the high-end atelier. Book via the form or by phone.

Do you receive on Sundays and holidays?

Yes, by Special booking. Sundays and holidays are reserved for brides who cannot come on a weekday or who request the Special booking.

It carries a €50 non-refundable fee (covers opening the atelier outside hours) and is always arranged by phone first, so we can settle on the best day with you.

fittings

The fitting process

How far in advance should I book my first fitting?

Ideally between 12 and 14 months before the day. It is the right amount of time to choose calmly, order the gown from the brand, do the intermediate fittings without pressure and reach the final adjustment with room to breathe.

If your date is closer, talk to us. There are gowns ready to adjust and quick solutions we can evaluate together.

How many fittings will I have in total?

On average between 3 and 5 fittings: the first one (gown selection), an intermediate one to refine drape, and the final ones for length adjustments, the soul of the gown and the veil if applicable.

The exact number depends on the gown and the level of alterations. Everything is included in the initial price, with no hidden extras.

Is the first fitting different from the others?

Yes. The first fitting reserves an entire afternoon: it begins with a conversation to understand your day, the place, the gesture. Only then do we show gowns.

You do not try everything that exists. Together we select a short number that makes sense. When the right gown appears, you usually know from the inside before the mirror confirms.

And if I need to cancel or reschedule a fitting?

No problem. We just ask for at least 24 hours notice (phone or email) so we can free the slot for another bride on the waiting list.

VIP and Special Sunday/Holiday bookings have a different policy due to the exclusive reservation: cancelling up to 48h keeps the fee for a future booking.

payment

Payment and conditions

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer, MB Way, Multibanco and cash. For imported gowns or extensive alterations, payment is staged.

We issue a complete invoice for every purchase. A company VAT number can be requested at the time of the deposit.

How does the deposit and staged payment work?

When you choose the gown, a reservation is registered with a deposit of 30% of the total amount. This deposit confirms the order with the brand and secures your date.

The remainder is split into two instalments: 40% at the intermediate fitting (gown already at the atelier) and 30% at the final fitting, before you take the gown home.

Does the gown price include the alterations?

Yes. The price quoted for each gown already includes standard alterations: waist, bust, length, shoulders and hem.

Deep structural alterations (changing the neckline, transforming the fabric, adding sleeves) may carry an additional cost, always quoted and validated with you before going ahead.

companions

Companions at the fittings

Can I bring guests to fittings on Saturdays?

Yes, but with a limit. On Saturdays (the most sought-after day) we ask for a maximum of 2 to 3 companions to ensure the atelier does not get crowded and your experience stays calm.

If you want to bring more people, we suggest the VIP booking, which reserves the whole atelier just for you and your guests, with no limit on the number of people.

And on weekdays, can I bring more people?

On weekdays the atelier has more availability and you can bring whoever you wish, with no formal limit. We always recommend 1 or 2 close people for the first fitting: it is a moment of inner listening and too many opinions scatter the decision.

For intermediate and final fittings, the presence of more people is welcome.

destination weddings

For brides travelling from abroad

Why come to Vila Nova de Gaia for a wedding gown?

Atelier Noiva Lusa is a 500m² sanctuary on the south bank of the Douro, 10 minutes from Porto airport (OPO) and well connected to Lisbon by rail (3h on Alfa Pendular).

We curate international prestige labels alongside in-house alterations and bilingual service. Many of our brides fly in from Brazil, Switzerland, France, the UK and Luxembourg.

How do you coordinate fittings if I live abroad?

We typically schedule the first fitting around your visit to Portugal. Subsequent fittings can be condensed (2 to 3 visits over 6 to 9 months) instead of the standard 4 to 5.

For final adjustments, we keep close contact via WhatsApp and video calls. Some brides prefer to leave the gown with us until closer to the wedding date.

Do you speak English and other languages?

Yes. Our team speaks fluent English, conversational French and welcoming Spanish. The full fitting experience, all paperwork and after-care can be conducted in any of these.

For other languages (German, Mandarin), we have arranged interpreters in the past on request.

Can the gown be shipped to me after the final fitting?

Yes, on request. We use insured courier services with door-to-door delivery and full tracking. Shipping is quoted separately based on destination and dimensions.

Most brides prefer to collect the gown in person on a trip close to the wedding date. Both options are perfectly fine.
